Bloody Bridge

Story: In the 1850s, the Miami-Erie Canal was still active, and two men, Bill Jones and Jack Billings, were competing for the love of Minnie Warren. Minnie fell in love with Jack, driving Bill into a rage. On a fall night in 1854, Jack and Minnie encountered Bill on the bridge over the canal. With one swing of an ax, Bill decapitated Jack. Minnie screamed and fell from the bridge into the canal below, drowning. Bill disappeared, and years later, an ax and skeleton were found at the bottom of a nearby well. The blood stains remained on the bridge until it was replaced in 1904. The new bridge was painted red to remind everyone of the tragedy. It is said if you cross the bridge at night and look down into the canal, you may see Minnie's face looking back at you from beneath the water. Screaming and splashing sounds can also be heard at times.

Louiza Fox Burial Site

Story: Louiza Catherine Fox, a 13-year-old housemaid, was tragically murdered in 1869 by her suitor, Thomas Carr. In 1869, he stalked her as she was walking on her way home and she was murdered him out on Starkey Road.  There’s another monument that also shows the site where she was murdered. Many have claimed to see Louiza’s ghost at the site of her death. As for Carr, he attempted suicide before he was caught. After being treated, he was sentenced to death just days later. Thomas Carr is said to be the first person hanged in Belmont County.

Urbana Abraham Lincoln’s Funeral Train

Story: After Lincoln’s assassination, his body traveled through Ohio on its way back to Illinois for burial. The train stopped in Urbana for fifteen minutes as crowds gathered around to catch a view of it. The train then went on its way. Every April, Lincoln’s funeral train can be seen passing through Urbana on the tracks, all draped in black. Skeletons appear as the crew and Lincoln’s coffin is surrounded by skeletons in blue coats. Wittenberg Avenue Old House

Story: This old home on Wittenberg Avenue was once an old boarding house, possibly a bordello, and is at least 150 years old. The home has apartments upstairs that are no longer used, but they once were rented out years ago. One apartment in particular is haunted. At least two witnesses have seen two men wearing railroad hats. One witness reported that one man was halfway into the door digging and pitching out dirt, and the other man was watching the first man dig. Both railroad workers then turned, looked at the witness and faded away. There is a section of basement with a dirt floor directly under this apartment. It is believed something could be buried there due to the fact that it is the only dirt spot in the basement…the rest of the floor is concrete.

Story: The WJAA Haunted Woods is one of the longest-running haunts around, opening in 1986. It is a 45-60 minute terrifying walk through the woods of WJAA. It includes a hayride to and from the woods, concessions, a bonfire, and more. You will encounter creatures and buildings that you will navigate through. At any given time, you will encounter more than 100 actors in the woods ranging from Killer Clowns, Zombies, Classic American Horror Characters, Chainsaw-wielding Psychos, Evil Spirits, Serial Killers, Cult Members, Deranged Carnies, and many more. Story: In 1836, Daniel Bender, his brother-in-law, and two other men traveled west from Pennsylvania to start a new home in Crawford County.
